Calcium: Generosity

Something To Think About

HEADS: Generosity is a very high denomination Garden Coin. It is also known in the Bible as “give, grant, bestow, bless, be liberal,” etc. Generosity is part of the very core of the Gospel.

For God so loved the world that he gave… John 3:16

We also see this characteristic throughout the whole natural realm. The sun gives us light. The clouds give us rain. The trees and plants freely fill the air with life-giving oxygen. And what do we do to “deserve” all this? Nothing. That’s the nature of generosity… and God.

So what does generosity have to do with gardening? Everything.

TAILS: In our earthly gardens Generosity is called Calcium. Either way it is the kingpin nutrient. The natural world would stop dead without it. Big C’s wealth stimulates growth of all soil microbes, including the nitrogen-fixing bacteria. It’s especially important in the production of protein, and needed in the membranes of all living cells. Every other mineral nutrient that goes into the plant needs Calcium’s signature.

Mr. C and his partner, Magnesium, reside, in inorganic form, in the cell wall of the plant’s tiny root hairs—sort of like guards in a palace, regulating everything that goes in. Unless half of the clay’s and humus’ nutrient holding capacity is filled with calcium—the garden’s key player— the depleted soil will leach the calcium from the roots!

Actually, for really good results, 60-75% of the soil’s nutrient holding capacity must be filled with plant available calcium (2-3 pounds per 100 square feet of soil 12” deep). If calcium is so important in the garden, what is that saying about generosity in our life?

Luke 6:38 CEV  If you give to others, you will be given a full amount in return. It will be packed down, shaken together, and spilling over into your lap.The way you treat others is the way you will be treated.

The Generosity/Calcium Coin is certainly one we don’t want to be without!
