This Little Light of Mine…
TAILS: Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen (CHON), are the main elements in making sunlight. But perfectly balanced proportions will not produce light by themselves. The life of God needs to be present as well. Remove or replace any one element and the light goes out.
CHON also defines anything organic in the garden. But “organic” does not necessarily mean “living”. It only means it comes (or came) from life. The compost pile is full of CHON, but the breath of life is gone. That pile would remain unchanged if there were no life in the soil to beak it down
When we put compost or manure or any other form of lifeless organic material in our garden, it will do our plants little good if the soil is sterile. Plants live on inorganic material, not organic. It’s the job of soil microbes to convert CHON into useable food for the plants. (A lot of heat can be generated when they do that, too. A friend lost his barn because some old hay got overheated.) Good organic gardening is actually good management of soil microbes
But if living conditions are not sufficient, the microbes can’t digest the organic matter. It then remains the job of the gardener to supply the inorganic nutrients. However he, too, can “burn” the plants by giving unbalanced proportions
In all three instances (making sunlight, organic, or inorganic gardening) CHON –or its counterparts as in the next paragraph– needs some form of life to make it work
HEADS: 1 Corinthians 13 says essentially the same thing. We can have all the proper spiritual components in place, but if we don’t have the power of God’s love to “fire” it up, it will be of little value. However, when Service, Truth, Grace, and Communion are present and are ignited by God’s love, a powerful influence for good radiates from the soul, an influence the Bible calls “light”
Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
