Carbon: Service
From Riches To Rags
TAILS: I’ve never seen a more versatile man in all my life, nor a busier one. Early in the morning he’s a janitor at the local high school, cleaning restrooms and locker rooms. During breakfast he’s helping in the kitchen. In the afternoon he’s their umpire.
I began to expect him anywhere, except where I saw him last night… at a large high-class convention. He wasn’t parking cars, or operating the elevators. He wasn’t serving the free refreshments, nor helping people register at the check-in counter, though I did half-expect to see him doing those things. What blew me away was when I learned “Janitor Joe”, as I mentally called him, was the Master of Ceremonies and one of the featured speakers.
As preposterous as this fictitious person sounds, I have poorly described Carbon, the servant of servants in the garden. To qualify for this most demanding position Carbon wears many hats. He can be soft like graphite and used to lubricate a squeaky bearing. As dirty coal he can heat a widow’s home. Yet as diamond he can name his price in value, or leave his mark on any other surface. All of these forms are pure carbon.
Carbon is everywhere there is life, and even fills the spaces in-between. Because of its abundance, along with hydrogen and oxygen, gardeners don’t usually think about it, unless it’s in the form of compost to enrich or molasses to sweeten the soil. Bacteria thrive on carbon because half of their structure is carbon-based. And in the process of digesting the organic-bound carbon, they also transform other soil elements into a useful AMINO ACID “milk” for the hungry plants, as a mother does for her baby,
HEADS: Service in God’s garden is just as important and adaptable. The Creator of heaven and earth, the rarest, most costly and beautiful of all Diamonds, took upon Himself the form of a servant for our sakes, yet always remained pure. And He invites us to follow in His footsteps. Though this Garden Coin is “only” pure carbon, its value is priceless.
James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
